The last page of Martha Beck’s book Steering by Starlight has this perfect poem which was read to her by an African guide.
Live while you are alive…
Learn to be what you are in the seed of your spirit
Learn to free yourself from all things that have molded you
And which limit your secret and undiscovered road…
Never forget that love
Requires that you be
The greatest person you are capable of being,
Self-generating and strong and gentle–
Your own hero and star…
Be grateful for life as you live it,
And may a wonderful light
Always guide you along the unfolding road.
She goes on to say this…
“No other person will ever walk the path that destiny has laid out for you, but along that path, you’ll come home to a thousand different places. You will meet your mother, your father, your twin, yourself, in a thousand different bodies. Even on the loneliest night, when it seems there is no one else on earth willing to travel such a strange and magical road, you will find your tribe out walking among the stars.”
Beautiful, no?
Beautiful, YES. I’ve lifted it from your blog and printed it out to hang on the wall of my office/cubicle/box that I live in during work hours. It reminds me … so Thank You for sharing. Beautiful.
I JUST finished this exciting book today. It is beautiful. Truly words to live by.
